about/contact.

Reiner Ebert is a German born, South-African artist. He is a self taught figurative oil painter who is inspired by life events and the human condition. Reiner spent most of his adult life living in Switzerland, pursuing a 16 year career B.A.S.E-jumping and wing-suit flying. On the 23rd of July 2012, while filming ‘Red-Bull extreme athlete’ Jokke-Sommer, at ‘Le Brevent’ in Chamonix, France, Reiner made a grave error while flying his wing-suit and crashed into a small tree at the top of the ‘Ensa couloir’ – Without deploying his parachute…Reiner was traveling at approximately 140 km per hour and it truly is a miracle that he survived with only a broken wrist and a cracked fibular. The small tree that Reiner impacted with his right arm while flying only 2 meters above the ground – Bent 90 degrees, absorbing most of the force of the impact while slowing him down. The tree then deflected him 90 degrees to left and a further 30 meters, where Reiner impacted another small tree with his right knee, which caught him, right on the edge of a 15m cliff. (Reiner’s story of survival has been documented in the soon to be released, full feature length documentary film, ‘Humilite’ by Dennis De Vries )

…This accident, along with Reiner’s life experiences and his desire to get back in the air with more resources to make his flying safer, encouraged Reiner to change his career and explore his artistic abilities. Reiner has since fully recovered from his injuries and has moved to Bretagne – France, where he lives and works as an artist.

Reiner Ebert, a German-born artist currently nestled in the artistic haven of Bretagne, France, captivates audiences with his evocative and soul-stirring creations. Ebert’s oil paintings delve into the complexities of the human condition, aiming to ignite introspection and prompt viewers to confront their own dark sides.By fearlessly presenting his flaws alongside his genuine intentions, Ebert invites judgment, encouraging personal growth and transformation. With recognition from the Pinacotheque of the Luxembourg Art Prize in 2022&2023, Ebert’s art challenges societal norms and seeks to make a positive impact. – Agora Gallery, NYC.

I am inspired by the human condition. I am convinced that humanity’s natural state is to love. And that we have been taught…Manipulated…to hate. Our negative emotions have been hijacked by those in charge!- Amplified and allowed to propagate within society. I believe that we can learn to tame our dark side. A dark side that absolutely everyone has – yet not everyone recognises exists within them. ….Perhaps with a little truth, love and forgiveness. …I take an idea; it could be a word, concept or social theme. Then, I try to break it down….honestly and truthfully. I want to simplify and reduce it down to one powerful image…My intention as I progress as an artist, is to stir the pot – To say the things that others may be too afraid to say, and yet, desperately need to be said. I want to use the viewers natural instinct to judge, in order to perhaps allow them to have a moment of self reflection. My artistic goals require me to present the very worst of myself…..I know that I will be judged -But I am OK with this!….I know who I am. I know what is in my heart and where my thoughts emanate from. I want to hold up a mirror to my audience. By judging me – The viewer will be judging me on superficial flaws and at the same time will be subconsciously and silently exposing and judging themselves. This is my ultimate goal as I realise that self reflection is the key to any kind of positive personal growth and change. I believe I can do some good in this world by challenging people’s perceptions. That is my true intention here. When reading my website. Please take this into consideration and understand that you are in fact reading my thoughts – Unfiltered. I am doing this so that I can remain completely transparent and gain the reader’s trust. I know it is a risk. But one that I am happy and willing to take. I want to be honest and open- Qualities which are desperately needed in society right now. -Therefore I am required to present the very worst of myself alongside the good in me. Please may I kindly ask that you take the time to read everything on my site before you make any judgements about my character. I consider myself a forever-learner, so my thoughts and opinions will undoubtedly continue to evolve alongside my understanding as I continue in this life. I hope you get where I am coming from and are not put off (too much).
